Rapid build housing Doorly Park Sligo

Solution? Ghetto? Social Experiment?

22 rapid build houses are to be built at Doorly Park Sligo, to house Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion of their country.

What are rapid build houses?  According to gov.ie – Rapid Build Housing (www.gov.ie) they are a type of modular home that can be delivered in a much shorter time period than a traditional built home.

With a supposed lifespan of 60 years maximum ( depending on who you’re talking to), they have their limitations. The price tags are appealing starting at €50,000  but excluding site cost and preparation. I saw the site work going on at Doorly Park this morning and reckon installing electricity, water and sewage disposal is not a rapid job.

“The Office of Public Works (OPW), working with the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY), has responsibility for delivering the Programme.”

Might I suggest that they offer some of these houses to locals on the Social Housing list. It seems unfair to segregate the Ukrainians from the local population and is the polar opposite of integration.

Our European masters probably won’t agree but based on their tendencies with ghettoization to date we should take some of their ideas with a pinch of salt.

Either way if it took a Russian war to finally get this going so be it!
