The housing commission was established in 2021 by Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien to figure out what to do about the housing crises in Ireland. Eh that’s good!
A few weeks ago (two and a half years later) its report was leaked to the Media. Horror of Horrors!
Out of eighty-three recommendations the most illuminating is “Supply needs to be increased.” Who’d have thought!
I jest! Theres apparently lots of good stuff there. The most encompassing recommendation is a “Reset” to housing policy approaches to basically everything housing, (planning, construction, renting, financing etc.) Excellent! No problem! We love change, here in Ireland!
They also recommend a referendum on a right to housing……… Yes, that’s right, another goddamn referendum!
