I was reading in last week’s Independent about the Shannon Oaks Hotel in Portumna, Co Galway, closed since 2012 and now derelict. Poor Portumna! It’s bad enough looking at an eyesore in its midst but being without the enjoyment of a local hotel to boot.
The Sentinel is a partly constructed fourteen storey apartment building in Sandyford, Co Dublin derelict since 2011.
The Mill Apartments built on the beautiful Ballisodare river in Sligo, have been idle since 2014.
Apart from rotting slowly for the locals to enjoy, what do these three locations have in common?
They’re owned by the Comers.
The Comers are a property development company originally from Galway. They have made their fortune in the property business.
Fair enough! Good luck to them.
For the New Year, lads, can we ask you to review these places, bearing in mind the shortage of homes for ordinary people. There must be solutions.
When is enough just that, enough?
