Having set up our Housing Action Group in 2021 we hold a yearly review of the changes made by the Irish government to solve the housing shortage.
Yes, it introduced a co-ownership scheme for first time buyers of new builds,
Yes, the Croi Conaithe grant to renovate derelict properties is changing our town’s scape slowly,
Yes, the local authorities have raised the income threshold for marginally higher earners to access loans,
Yes, the banks have raised the mortgage to salary ratio to 4,
No Rent to buy scheme,
No Compulsory sale scheme,
Twenty-one counties have Credit Unions that offer mortgages, but Sligo’s Credit Union does not.
Finally, a loud cheer for our big ghost derelicts hanging on here in Sligo.
Join us on Thursday February 27th at the Railway Bar for Sligo Housing Action Group’s
“Eyesore of the year awards”.
