Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) provide cost rental and social housing in Ireland. Even though some of these AHBs are charities, they rely on government funding nonetheless to achieve this.
According to the 2024 Irish Property Price register approximately 41 property schemes worth a total of €911m were bought by Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) or the Land Development Agency(LDA) last year.
Six AHBs took the lead last year in building and buying large scale properties: Clúid Housing, Oaklee, Tuath, Co-operative Housing Ireland, Respond Housing and Circle VHA with the LDA also doing its bit.
As I see it, cost rentals & social housing are the way out of Ireland’s acute housing shortage.
